TedXNewYork Salon is an intersectional community of diverse, open-minded and passionate individuals.
We connect through our salons and other curated events. The longest running and most active TEDx program in New York City, we've met almost every Friday since 2009. We invite you to join our community and conversations.
Our Organizing Team
Tish is a bean-maker, not a bean-taker. With a focus in research and innovation, brand strategy and story, she unlocks the better stories of organizations and brands. She has worked at leading international communications agencies Ogilvy, BBDO and Saatchi; she has been the strategic lead on global brands like Dove, Tang, Pampers and Johnson & Johnson. Tish has worked in beauty, baby care, barbecue, beer, luxury, laundry. home care, fashion, technology and social justice. Through her work, she builds our collective better story.
Tish is a Clio award-winning copywriter and a Scholar award winning strategist for campaign effectiveness. Her work has transformed some of the most iconic brands, Fortune 100 companies, as well as start-ups, small businesses and non-profits. A poet, writer and facilitator, her work has appeared in journals and publications around the world. She is currently working on a novel series.
Tish is also co-Founder of the Womens Worldwide Web, a platform dedicated to the educational and economic empowerment of the world's girls and women. She has worked in the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, the UK, and the UAE. She speaks English, Filipino and Spanish; and is an avid Game of Thrones follower.
A member of the community since 2009, Tish holds the TEDxNewYorkSalon license and serves as lead organizer and programming director.
Myron is a collaborative builder. He has successfully managed the construction of many real estate projects on both East and West Coasts. Additionally, Myron is a Life Fitness Coach. His coaching style involves mind, body, and spirit transformative exercises. Essentially, he helps people get out of their own way.
Myron has been a student of the “New Thought” Movement for more than a decade. He is involved in the constant study of Science of Mind and A Course in Miracles texts. and follows the teachings of Rev. Michael Beckwith and Bob Proctor. He is an active member of Toastmasters International Public Speaking Organization. He mentors members and competes in both Inspirational and Humorous Speech Contests.
More recently he started producing his Motivational Videos (aka “Motivational Shorts”) on YouTube. Myron continues to ask himself, “What am I not seeing?” as a way to constantly challenge his current awareness.
A member of our community since 2011, Myron joined our organizing team in 2015.
A Toronto-born serial entrepreneur, Karla founded her first business at age 15. Three years later, she published a community magazine with a sustainable mentorship model, which led to her next venture, a social enterprise for entrepreneurs ages 15-29. Now Brooklyn-based, Karla is behind digital branding and messaging strategies for one of New York City's most exciting brands.
Karla is the force behind our community outreach and brand voice. She leads online communication through website copy, weekly newsletters, and event invitations. She is a vital support in our weekly Salon events, seeking opportunities to engage a younger, culturally diverse audience and manage sponsor relationships.
Karla has been on the organizing team since 2014.
Mary is a writer and journalist based in Brooklyn who is concerned with communities and scientific emergence. She has contributed as a music critic for Paste, Wondering Sound, and BUST magazine. While studying at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, she focused her work on audio cultures and new media (think: public radio and music-based subcultures).
Forever curious, Mary is focused on learning new things every day. She plans to tackle coding — and maybe scuba diving — next. She has cried in every planetarium she’s ever been in.
Mary produces our TEDxNewYorkSalon podcast. She joined our organizing team in 2016.
Gabby is a Manila-born, New York based Designer who enjoys work that simultaneously balances accessibility with beauty. Currently, she has a full-time role as a User Experience Designer. Previously was a designer on some brand campaigns for some of the world’s most well-known brands, such as Nike and Samsung. She is also Co Editor-in-Chief of Unrecorded, a website that shares the news, reviews, and behind-the-scenes access in the indie music scene. For Unrecorded, she manages content, marketing and front-end development.
Her work has been recognized by the Columbia Scholastic Press, the Society of Professional Journalists, the College Media Association, Graphis Inc., just to name a few. She continues to expand her skill set by working on super secret personal projects and attending dance classes on weekends.
Gabby joined our organizing team in 2016. She is our graphic designer and provides tech supervision at our salon events.
Adri Angotti is a Creative Director and founder of ICONscious - an advertising boutique that transforms ‘conscious companies’ in icons. Specialized in ’Blue Ocean’ Campaigns, ICONscious positions corporate and personal brands through value innovation and the creation of untapped markets - where the competition is irrelevant. She’s also the founder of Lucid Conversations™, a platform dedicated to rebranding the way Sexual Energy is portrayed and experienced in our culture. Through Quantum Physics, Neuroscience, Bio-Energetics and Epigenetics, her seminars and lectures explore the idea that Sexual Energy is designed to sustain life beyond the aspects of procreation and recreation. Adri teaches "Sex & Quantum Physics" courses in the US, internationally and online, where you can learn game-changing information about Sexual Energy that will directly impact all areas of your life. Connector and change agent, Bobbi Van began pursuing her passion to create fine art over a decade ago. Since then her work has been featured internationally at venues including Lincoln Center and the Museo Regionale in Mexico. As an advocate for helping people step up to the plate in life, Bobbi also works privately as a creative coach. Bobbi Van sees her life as a work of art. For her everyday is a new adventure filled with possibility in seeing the beauty in the simple and easily overlooked. She began her career as an artist and a sculptor over a decade ago, when her work drew the attention of many collectors and her work has shown in Lincoln Center, Regionale Museo in Moralia, Mexico, Guild Hall, East Hampton, the Navila Group and the Asia Contemporary Art Fair in Hong Kong and the FLUX ART FAIR in Harlem. Bobbi also has been mentoring young people who have been abused and set aside by helping them tell their story through art.
A member of the community since 2009, Bobbi has been on the organizing team since 2013.
Named Real World Scholar with World Evolved Lecture Series, Gina is a cultural anthropologist researching ritual, ritual foods and food strategies for over 25 years. She is Founder and Executive Director of the Hydration Foundation and CEO of HYCHIA, LLC. Trained at Columbia University, she is a former Berlin Fellow with the Social Science Research Council, a National Endowment for the Humanities finalist and has been featured at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She weds ethnographic strategies to the new science on hydration to serve the elderly, school children, athletes and hydrating while traveling. She has coached many of TED speakers on better brain performance. An innovator and inspiring speaker, her work has appeared in such diverse places as The New York Times, Grand Central Station, Harvard University and the Wissenschaftskollege, Berlin.
A member of the organizing team since 2011, Gina keeps our community collaborative and connected.
One of the pioneers of the spoken word movement, Navé cofounded Poetry Alive!, a theater company which has performed poetry for over 10 million K–12 students around the globe. With Julia Cameron, he co-Founded and directed The Artist’s Way Creativity Camp which toured North America, For 25 years he has taught writing, performance, and creativity on 5 continents; he has designed and facilitated executive creativity sessions for clients such as Timex, Pepsi, the National University of Ireland Galway, North Carolina Outward Bound, Gettliffe Architecture, Create to Heal, and LKB Associates, Paris.
An Asheville native, Navé holds an MFA in Poetry from Vermont College Fine Arts. He has been the LEAF Poetry Slam Master since the festival began in 1995. He is the Director of the Taos Storytelling Festival and the Director of the Taos Poetry Festival. He is also co-Founder of Twice-5-Miles, a creative think tank.
Navé was interviewed by Jacki Lyden for NPR’s Weekend Edition in 2011 where he told the story of how he confronted his big mento mori ("remember your mortality") moment the best way he knew how — vowing to write a poem a day for the hundred days following his cancer surgery. He is also the host and producer of Twice-5-Miles Radio for Asheville’s WPVM 103.7, going the metaphorical Twice-5-Miles to find stories and create conversations about culture, art, education, business, politics, and literature.
Tristian is a native New Yorker born in Washington Heights, raised in the Bronx, currently living in Williamsburg via Harlem. She is a human resources professional in the healthcare with a mad passion for healthcare equality and universal primary care access in the United States.
An avid volunteer and serial do-gooder, her past projects have included education programs for elementary- and high school-aged students, political campaign activities, free tax preparation, and pro bono consulting.
She loves to travel and has a special soft spot for Scandinavia. She is also a skilled home cook with a deep love for global cuisine.
She is currently learning the art of podcasting, and hopes to share this new skill with the TEDx community in the near future.
